The days are getting shorter and most of us turn toward indoor activities. It is a time to reflect and perhaps do a bit of soul searching. For me this time of year is represented best in the piano music of Franz Schubert. His Impromptu in E-flat minor D. 946 was written in the last year of his life. It is deeply unsettling and at the same time an intimate homage to the human spirit.
