TRIO TRAVELS

Summer is here, and I love the hot temps and long days.

We just returned from a tour with our trio (Misook Yun, soprano, Sean Yanzer, horn, and myself).

Some months ago we started looking for music of underrepresented groups, and we ended up commissioning several works.

One of the commissions went to Andrea Reinkemeyer who lives and works in Oregon. It was great fun to go to Portland, and to perform and record her beautiful piece “Letter to a friend”.

Here we are with Andrea (top left).

Concert tours usually come with a bit of fun as well. We got to explore a bit of Portland, and I loved the quirky character of the city.

A true find was a former school building transformed into a hotel with a restaurant and several bars.

This restoration initiative is the brain child of the McMenamin family, who buys and renovates abandoned buildings in Oregon.

Here is how the Kennedy School dining hall looks now that it is a fun restaurant.

I can’t wait until my next trip to the great Pacific Northwest!
