Maestro Brett Mitchell, Part I: China

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to talk with Brett Mitchell, associate conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, during our fun lunchtime meeting in front of Severance Hall (home of the Cleveland Orchestra). Maestro Mitchell talks about his experiences during his recent concert tour to China, his work with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and the importance of cultural exchanges and crossroads. He also delves into why he decided to go to China, how he negotiated language and communication hurdles (big one: he almost wasn't allowed to sound check in the hall), how the repertoire played differently from town to town, and how he managed to climb the Great Wall thanks to the cheering of his hundred young orchestra members.

Such unforgettable and fun insights into Brett's view of China. Read more about Brett Mitchell!
