Touring on QM2
I just returned from my transatlantic crossing tour. Queen Mary 2 was magnificent as always. Today, I would like to share with you some backstories from my recent crossing aboard the iconic ocean liner.
I frequently get questions about my concert outfits. It does take a bit of planning to pick the right styles, and to offer fresh looks. Three concerts means three gowns. For this crossing, I selected my favorite short sleeve red gown for concert no. 1 (see header), this royal blue three-quarter sleeve dress for my second recital, and a turquoise metallic gown with long sleeve for the final show. All three are by the designer Tadashi Shoji, my absolute favorite. I love his classic choices and sublime materials.
This is the view from the Royal Court Theatre stage aboard QM2. The house offers just about 1100 seats on two levels, and usually books between 80 and 90 percent. The stage lighting is low for my rehearsals, during the concert it looks a lot brighter.
On concert days, I usually explore the ship after playing. The floral arrangements are just lovely. My favorite is the centerpiece in the grand lobby, it is always worth a stop and a smell.
On days without a show, I love to take a walk around the deck. Two laps around the entire ship are one mile, which makes for a nice little workout with the added bonus of a beautiful sunset.
Now it is time to get ready for my next tour, this one will be on Queen Elizabeth. Can’t wait to share my impressions about it all. Do let me know what you would like to find out about!
